More curious developments in our latest Purho edition of What’s He Building In There (which I suppose really should be its own category), as the Crayon Physics creator extends the generative aspects of his last character prototype even further with these mathematically created and arranged pixel Invaders.

As a bonus double shot, a look at a tiny fraction of the 32,768 unique invaders that can be created in a 5×5 grid, courtesy Jared ‘Levitated‘ Tarbell, original author of the fractal invader code that Purho’s prototype is loosely based upon. [all via Petri himself]

News that Media Molecule’s just-announced beardy Druid SackBoy costume has been delayed to next week isn’t exactly earth-shattering, but their accompanying photo — titled sad_druid.jpg — is so tragicomic, after all the smiley sunflower-picking Solstice-celebrating optimism of the original, that I had to mention it here.

ONE SHOT: INGRES MEETS INVADER IN MONTAUBAN

Guerrilla artist Invader invades Montauban, France on the eve of joining the “Ingres et les Modernes” gallery exhibition, dedicated to the modern legacy of the city’s own Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.

Inside the exhibit, he shows his “Rubik Odalisque” (a tribute to Ingres’ Grand original), and elsewhere in town, the similar ‘La Source‘-inspired mosaic above (alongside more traditional invasions).

Hit the jump for the prettier — but NSFW, I suppose (does art still count?) — version from the gallery invitation that traces the image’s lineage: I’m still trying to track down the artist that created the image in the middle.

Apparently spotted on the road by Patrik ‘voxar‘ Sjöberg, this van innocuously marked with the logo of Aperture Laboratories — the Black Mesa rival where the events of Valve’s Portal take place — has to be nothing more than a fan tribute.. right? I mean, right? [via Tristan Mahr]

As a work in progress, it’s maybe a bit unfair to prematurely post this, but even in its current state it’s looking wicked: above is, obviously, a retro-illustrated tribute to Legend of Zelda from one of my new favorite artists, Richard ‘Skinny Ships‘ Perez.

Perez is also behind this similarly awesome tribute to underappreciated Coppola movie The Conversation, and this tribute to, well, vampires, Lincoln, bears, VHS tapes, kittens, raccoons, zombies, etc. etc., which you’ve undoubtedly seen making the rounds before if you’ve taken a step anywhere near any given Tumblr.
