Every month, as part of the regular monthly meetings of the Austin, TX independent game community JUEGOS RANCHEROS, we do a very casual & chatty rundown of the ten or so games from the previous month — both local and global, and both indie and occasionally a bit-bigger-budget — for the audience, to give people — especially those curious onlookers from outside the indie community itself — a look at what they may have missed.
In keeping with the tongue-in-tobacco-packed-cheek tone, we call these run-downs A Fistful of Indies, which are be presented here on Venus Patrol for your reference, each fully-annotated, -linked, and off-the-cuff blurbed, in addition to their home on the JUEGOS RANCHEROS site.
* although this being a ‘nice game’ you don’t really have any enemies, just lots of floaty horror-sexual imagery to gross you out. Here’s some mood music to go with the pic…. ROCK OUT KIT-MONSTER !

1 – RUN LOLLY RUN – Canabalt with a melting lolly and german techno soundtrack.
2 – OWL APPROVAL DEPT – A “librarian game” with a variety of animal stamps.
3 – UGNAUGHT SCHOOL – A robot fixing set of mini-games.
4 – SALT & PEPPER – Raging Condiment-fixated music game. Saving this for a rainy day.
5 – VOID – Drop flares into an endless chasm – basejump into it, die, drop more flares & jump again !
6 – GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD GAME – Award stacking physics game !
7 – CHEVY CHASE RACERS – Mario Kart with a multitude of badly drawn Chevy Chase characters.
8 – RSP – Another Ikaruga ripoff where you pilot a ship that morphs between Rock, paper & Scissors
9 – JAVUS DEAD?! YOU DEAD – Hunt the wumpus game, but in flash. IMAGINE.
10 – IF PENISES WERE HORSES – A B**king bronco stunt game. IMAGINE.
11 – CEASE & DESIST – Scrolling brawler when new famous characters weekly would be added until the letter for the lawyers arrived.
12 – SEASIDE GAMES – Some really unfocussed puzzle games involving sand and water.
13 – CIRCUS OF UNEASE – Invisible animal taming game !
14 – ELECTRO SOMETHING – A tower defence game where you charge up a Van Der Graaf generator. Don’t know what that cyclopic bart simpson superhero is about though…
15 – POTTER NIGHT – A “long game” where you must keep people on a couch alive for a marathon dvd night of the Children’s wizard films.
16 – FUDGE PACKERS – rubbish.
17 – SQUINIT TO WIN-IT – A game which can only be played by squinting. OF COURSE.
