Every month, as part of the regular monthly meetings of the Austin, TX independent game community JUEGOS RANCHEROS, we do a very casual & chatty rundown of the ten or so games from the previous month for the audience, to give people — especially those curious onlookers from outside the indie community itself — a look at what they may have missed. The featured games are both local and global, and both indie and, on occasion, a bit-bigger-budget — what binds them together is simply that they’re all amazing.

In keeping with the tongue-in-tobacco-packed-cheek tone, we call these run-downs A Fistful of Indies, which are presented here on Venus Patrol for your reference, each fully-annotated, -linked, and off-the-cuff blurbed, in addition to their home on the JUEGOS RANCHEROS site.

This week’s issue showcases a whopping sixteen new games in development, in all genres and styles. Catching up on the craziness I missed in the past couple weeks, I’ve been through a lot of emotions. I was amazed by the gloomy environment art of Aliceffekt’s iOS adventure game Hiversaires, intrigued by Red Rover‘s mysterious screenshots of looming space stations, excited by the thought of becoming a jousting knight in Pixelry… and strangely aroused by the pixelated sexual content of minimalist pulp adventure game After the Comet.

Also, the 16-bit style action adventure game Anodyne has finally been released – check out its 32 page long forum thread to know everything about its development, from early concept art to completion.

As the month of November ends, we see the Sports game competition nearing completion. Blood Ball, Flog, Home Run and Unicorrida all seem pretty much finished, and we can’t wait to try them out. A surprising addition to the compo roster is Spelunky‘s creator and TIGSource guru Derek Yu’s own entry – a funky tennis game called Boogie Tennis.

Don’t mind the huge creepy eyes staring at you in Environmental Station Alpha – focus on all the good stuff on the forums this week! Pixel art western The Wild West, mysterious point and click platformer The Remnant and 4-player arena party game Greedy Piggy Chase (shameless plug!) make their first appearance, while Rock Boshers DX sees a release on Playstation Mobile.

In this issue, a bunch of new games have been added to the forums, including Gesundheit‘s creator Matt Hammill’s new project, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. We also see the release of Snayke and Droqen’s four-game collection Probability 0 + Friends!
