SOUPED UP: Q-GAMES’ SPILLS FIRST DETAILS OF THEIR LATEST PIXELJUNK GAME
In an atypically open move, Q-Games have just poured a large can of concept art all over their site, giving us a very early look at their yet-untitled next game in the much-beloved art/game series PixelJunk. Due for release in 2013, and moving away from the PlayStation 3 for the first time to instead target an initial launch on Steam, the only non-visual details the developers have let leak is that the game will primarily be co-op oriented, for “at least” four players.
Well, that, and an apparent deep fixation on the secrets of the soup being produced and possibly used as currency by the in-game “RoboExec” corporation. Q-Games have promised to keep progress on the game, which began over a year ago as a side-project by PixelJunk 4AM producer Rowan Parker, entirely in the public eye as it continues to evolve. In the meantime, below the fold is a handful more bits of concept art, all of which is too beautiful & funny to not feature now.
JUEGOS RANCHEROS’ FISTFUL OF INDIES: JULY 2012
Every month, as part of the regular monthly meetings of the Austin, TX independent game community JUEGOS RANCHEROS, we do a very casual & chatty rundown of the ten or so games from the previous month — both local and global, and both indie and occasionally a bit-bigger-budget — for the audience, to give people — especially those curious onlookers from outside the indie community itself — a look at what they may have missed.
In keeping with the tongue-in-tobacco-packed-cheek tone, we call these run-downs A Fistful of Indies, which are be presented here on Venus Patrol for your reference, each fully-annotated, -linked, and off-the-cuff blurbed, in addition to their home on the JUEGOS RANCHEROS site.

LISTEN: PIXELJUNK EDEN CREATOR BAIYON, IN THE HOUSE
This clip just about has it all: PixelJunk Eden‘s audio/visual director Baiyon spinning his trademark blend of house/trance at Kyoto’s Club Metro, to an adoring crowd of frame-dropped and light-smeared kids & adorable mod-striped short-haired girls, while wearing — best of all — the T-shirt he received for speaking at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference. GOING HOME: KATAMARI DAMACY, PIXELJUNK GETTING SONY HOME ADD-ONS
Though It might not quite be the overhaul that would make Sony’s PlayStation 3 virtual world Home an inescapable daily-getaway, the service is nicking away at my resolve by soon offering — with the help of Namco — a new set of Katamari Damacy outfits, each complete with their very own companion Prince, as seen via andriasang.
And, as the company continues to gear up its fourth entry in the series, PixelJunk creators Q-games have just released screenshots of their own planned Home stage, with specific areas dedicated to each game in the set, as seen with the Racers and Monsters preview above.
The studio is also planning its own line of in-game fashion goods, as above, with a Monsters mask, and an in-game version of the real-world limited line of King of Games T-shirts featured here last month. [via PlayStation LifeStyle]

OUT OF EDEN: KING OF GAMES’ NEW PIXELJUNK T-SHIRTS
Unstoppable Japanese game fashion outlet King of Games has teamed up with Q-games to officially release this pair of T-shirts for the latter’s PixelJunk series of PlayStation Network games.
Above, the PixelJunk Eden: Encore version marked with the game’s various garden portals, and below, the simple series logo itself. Both are apparently quite limited, but Q-games head Dylan Cuthbert gives a glimmer of hope that they might make their way out of Japan at some point in the future.

FIRE FIGHTS: PIXELJUNK 1-4 BECOMES PIXELJUNK SHOOTER
With its previously mentioned naming contest now concluded, Q-games — creator of the PS3 downloadable series Pixel Junk — has officially donned its latest fluid mechanics/subterranean rescue game, simply, PixelJunk Shooter, from a body of entries that also included Depths, Atlantis, Caves, Blaster, and S.O.S.
Also unveiled, the game’s logo above, which captures quite nicely the shifting interplay between its water, fire, and rock elements. See the last Offworld entry on the game for the first full trailer.

HELL OF MAGMA: FIRST FOOTAGE OF Q-GAMES’ LATEST PIXELJUNK
I can’t have been the only one who played d_of_i‘s original sand games (collected here alongside all its various spinoffs) and thought that someday, eventually, someone could make an extremely compelling game out of the experience.
As it turns out: that’d be Q-games, who have finally revealed the full trailer to their recently teased and re-teased fourth PixelJunk game, still known as 1-4. As you can see above, the game takes everything engrossing about manipulating realistically modeled particle/fluid mechanics and combines it with subterranean rescue, Lunar Lander/Dropship-esque thrust physics and 360 degree shooting.
In further viral efforts, Q-games has also left the name of this game up to the players: they’re currently holding a naming contest at the game’s official site, with T-shirts for the winner and five runners up. Head over there for more artwork and details, and to submit your own entry.

DIG HARDER: MORE IMAGES OF Q-GAMES’ NEXT PS3 DOWNLOADABLE PIXELJUNK
Slowly, slowly, the lid peels back: as more members join Q-games’ previously mentioned Facebook campaign to get one million people to buy their next PS3 downloadable PixelJunk game on launch day, the studio has kept its promise of teasing more images. At right, the first full frame photo of the game’s subterranean domain, with the first hints of liquid dynamics.
Also added, the first vehicular shot making its way through the fluid. Head over to (and join) the event page, or the PixelJunk 1-4 fan page for more information.

I DIG: Q-GAMES TEASES FIRST IMAGES OF NEW PIXELJUNK GAME
With the Encore edition of Pixeljunk Eden now officially in the wild, series creator Q-games has begun the slow information reveal of its next game in the franchise — still known simply as PixelJunk 1-4 (the fourth game after Racers, Monsters, and Eden — and above you see the first two images.
It’s not much to go on, other than what would appear to be a group’s journey burrowing into the earth, and — what have we here — over at the series’ home site, the ‘coming soon’ notice hovers over a shovel beginning the dig itself.
The images come as part of a new Facebook campaign to get one million people to buy the game on its launch day, and the more people join its launch-event group, the more images the studio promises to post.
Head over to the event page, or the PixelJunk 1-4 fan page for more information.
