This week’s selection shows some love for pixel art, with fourteen games in development showing true skill with the pixel brush! We have Chasm in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign, Tale of the Stolen Rainbow creating an epic Zelda-like adventure with minimalist black and white pixels, and then there’s The Bitter End.. oh wait, it seems to have been made in Hexels!

I’d also like to point out that Dungeon Hearts, a puzzler for the quick mind, has finally been released on the App Store, after over two years of thorough devlogs on the TIGSource Forums. You should probably read their entries, especially if you enjoy the soundtrack – there’s a freebie in there somewhere!

This week’s issue showcases a whopping sixteen new games in development, in all genres and styles. Catching up on the craziness I missed in the past couple weeks, I’ve been through a lot of emotions. I was amazed by the gloomy environment art of Aliceffekt’s iOS adventure game Hiversaires, intrigued by Red Rover‘s mysterious screenshots of looming space stations, excited by the thought of becoming a jousting knight in Pixelry… and strangely aroused by the pixelated sexual content of minimalist pulp adventure game After the Comet.

Also, the 16-bit style action adventure game Anodyne has finally been released – check out its 32 page long forum thread to know everything about its development, from early concept art to completion.

During the holiday break, the TIGSource Devlog Zine got a little make-over, and with it I’ve decided to change its schedule – the zine will now be published every two weeks!

Now that we’re back, you should catch up on the incredibles games in development – new screenshots have been added to Two Brothers, Saturated Dreamers, Jack the Reaper, SpaceHero Command and lots of other cool new games. I’d also recommend you visit Tower of Gorillion‘s forum thread for more screens and info about this new action platformer.

Would you look at all the colors in this week’s issue? In it, we explore the dark corridors of spaceships filled with evil robots in Steam Marines, jump around Another Castle in our brand new jetpack, swim in the crazy seas of Geisha Novia, and skulk creepily in a foggy forest in Stealth Vampire.

My personal favorite this week, though, is I Found My Place, a beautiful, creepy experimental adventure game – check out the new teaser they just released, you’ll see what I mean.

Since 2009, TIGSource forum user St33d has been writing a pretty thorough devlog for a rogue-like platformer named Red Rogue. This week marks the end of that thread – Red Rogue is finally completed and released for everyone to play! It’s a very interesting entry in the rogue-like genre, with its mix of platforming, auto-combat, loot and traps. I’d also recommend checking out its soundtrack on Bandcamp!

There are a ton of new threads in the Devlog section this week. Let’s start with HarvestCraft, a game inspired by Harvest Moon, but with Minecraft‘s creativity aspects, all done in tiny, lovely pixel art. We’re glad to see Fez composer Disasterpeace join the devlog threads with January, a music generation game/tool involving snowflake-licking he’s been working on for a while now. Then there’s Reich, a turn-based strategy game in which you play the axis’ side of World War II – risqué, but quite interesting!

As the month of November ends, we see the Sports game competition nearing completion. Blood Ball, Flog, Home Run and Unicorrida all seem pretty much finished, and we can’t wait to try them out. A surprising addition to the compo roster is Spelunky‘s creator and TIGSource guru Derek Yu’s own entry – a funky tennis game called Boogie Tennis.

Game designers don’t have time for any of that turkey stuff and those pesky Black Friday sales – they’ve got amazing games to make! We’ve got six brand new devlogs in the forums this week – among them the gorgeous tile-based strategy game Oberon’s Court, rocking epic dragons and volcanoes, The Burger Flipper, a point and click adventure game set in a fast food restaurant, and Droidnaught, a first-person dungeon crawler à la Eye of the Beholder, but set in a sci-fi world!

Meanwhile, other developers are still working extra hard on the Sports game competition on the TIGSource Forums, with some titles evolving quite nicely, like Buckets of Blood and By the Law of Blades.

This week, game makers are still working hard on the Sports game making competition, and the list of participants keeps growing. We now have incredibly wide variety in the competition: strategy football (or “Footbrawl”), cake fighting, parkour platforming, rabbits and bees (sic)…

We’re also quite intrigued by some non-sports games on the forums, like Fran Bow, a brutally dark point and click adventure, and Papers, Please, described by its designer as a “dystopian document thriller”.

A new game making competition has begun on the TIGSource forums and the theme is SPORTS! Don’t expect the usual football and hockey games from indie developers though! A month from now, we will be playing a crazy series of sports games, from the hyperviolent (Dodgefist, By the Law of Blades) to the hilarious (Limbolympic).

In this issue, there’s a new simulation RPG called Avant-Garde about life as a painter in Paris. You read that right! Speaking of art, we get concept illustrations for Soulstrand and Burden, plus some nice fan art for The Walled Garden, and other artists showing off their shiny new art in Alienoid Core, Ritus and Aeon.
